About the project

The impetus of the Mounder Statue Project is simply to produce a lasting symbol to honor the spirit, memory, and heritage of Mount Morris High School.

The Male Mountain Ram was selected to become our mascot by a vote of the classes of 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1968.  Wikipedia examines the mythology of male big horn sheep by concluding that "The other sheep grant him power, wisdom, sharp eyes, sure footedness, great strength and a strong heart".

The Mounder is a life-size bronze statue erected in Mounder Park.  It was dedicated during the 4th of July, 2009 celebration.  The statue was funded entirely by private and corporate donations.
